About the Coach
With a bachelor’s degree in Education and a master’s degree in Sports Coaching from the Faculty of Human Kinetics, the coach began his career in competitive surf coaching between 2008 and 2010. During his academic internship, he worked with the surf team led by Professor and National Team Coach David Raimundo, coaching elite athletes, including Vasco Ribeiro, the 2014 Junior World Champion.
In 2010, he founded the Surfperformance project, with the goal of developing a solid training foundation for young surfers, integrating technical, physical, psychological, and competitive aspects. Over more than 15 years of experience, he has coached over 70 athletes, ranging from promising young talents to elite competitors, winning 4 national runner-up titles in the junior category, 3 German national titles, and having 3 surfers selected for the Portuguese National Team.
The coach’s experience also includes three years of teaching at the Rio Maior Higher School of Sport (ESDRM), where he was responsible for the Training Methodology course in the TeSP programs, sharing academic and practical knowledge with future sports professionals.
In addition to working with young athletes, the coach mentors adult surfers seeking to refine their technique and elevate their surfing level. He also teaches surfskate classes—an essential tool for technical training out of the water—and breathwork sessions focused on respiratory control, recovery, and performance.
A native of Ericeira, he has over 20 years of experience both in and out of the water, with an in-depth understanding of the waves and the unique characteristics of this region, a world-renowned surfing destination.
Today, he combines specialized academic training, extensive experience, and daily practice to offer structured coaching based on process, consistency, and sustained progress, with a focus on the technical, physical, and mental development of each surfer.
